A new piece that I created for Boston Globe's Op-Ed page.  The story is about a woman's connection, through her old Charle's Dickens volumes, to their previous owner, L. R. Generson.  Her research leads her to discover that the man led an extraordinary and accomplished life.  As in Dickens' novels, everything is connected to everything else. This is my first time with an op-ed illustration

A poster for Tortoise, the amazing instrumental band that came to Richmond earlier this month.  This piece was inspired by film noir, with the genre's use of dramatic angles and lighting to build suspenseful tension, usually taking place in a city setting.  The band's Jazz inspired moody music would be perfectly set for one of these old black and white movies.

This is a portrait that I painted of my good friend's father that recently passed away.  He always seemed to be a very happy Harley ridin' family man that built an amazing life from nearly nothing.  I did this as a gift to his family in celebration of his life. These two paintings were done this past semester. The first one is a mock up poster for Lorraine Hansbury's A Raisin in the Sun. The second piece was done for a short fictional story in the Atlantic Monthly entitled The Return of the Grey Badger. It is about two bothers on the run trying to make money by racing with a stolen horse in order to bail their bank robbing father out of prison.

The book is about Grann's search to uncover the mystery of Percy Fawcett, the last great Victorian explorer who fell in love with the Amazon and became obsessed with his search for a supposed "city of gold". So I've been having a lot of fun lately screen printing enlarged drawings from my sketchbook. This drawing was done while waiting for my dinner at Kuba Kuba, a locally owned cuban restaurant in Richmond, VA. It is 5 layers and my second attempt at screen printing. This is my piece for Robin Eley and Scott Anderson's assignment to do a portrait for Rolling Stone of somebody with the letter that was given to us. I got the letter M, which has too many options, but I chose to do Muddy Waters because he is great. I tried to depict him as the father of Chicago blues, who brought delta blues to the city and turned it electric.

This is a piece that I did during the fall semester where I turned the fret board on the guitar into a train bridge to illustrate "communication".  I love music, it is arguably the most universal and influential forms of communication.  Good music changes the world.  I also love trains and bridges...good imagery and metaphors.
