I recently found out that I've been accepted to attend the Illustration Academy this summer, I'm supra psyched. I know a few other people going so we're gonna have a lot of fun. Anyways, the Poe Museum in Richmond, VA was having a competition to create a poster to commemorate Edgar Allen Poe's Bicentenial. So I did this painting using tar because I've watched Mark English and George Pratt give demos on this technique and I've been wanting to try it for a while. Here are some photos from the process.
The first is an acrylic under painting.
After I scraped the tar off. Doesn't really look like him .
After I added some oils.
Hers the finished painting after adding some more cool colors and doing some things to attempt and make the image pop a little better. If I use this technique again, there are definately some things that I would do differently, but it was fun to do something new.
And finally, the poster that I submitted after digitally adding all the information that they asked for.

This page is a bit too hollow, so here is a little substance from this past year to get things going.
